ZIMBABWE NATIONAL ARMY RECRUITMENT GUIDELINES.
The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) is a professional land force of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces which is constitutionally mandated to protect Zimbabwe’s territorial integrity, its people and its interests. Pursuant to the fulfilment of the constitutional obligations, the ZNA equitably recruits its human resource from all the provinces of Zimbabwe in order to maintain the national character. The Recruitment Guidelines outlines standing parameters and criteria to be followed on selecting eligible candidates to serve in the ZNA.
Principles that Guide Recruitment into the ZNA
The following principles guide ZNA’s recruitment drive:
- Fairness and Equity. Fair and open competition is paramount during the recruitment process.
- Merit. Recruitment of the best candidates for the organisation shall be based on merit and conducted in accordance with the set criteria.
- Professionalism. Selection of candidates to be conducted professionally and in compliance with relevant national policies.
- Objectivity and Consistency. Selection process must be objective, unbiased, best result oriented and applied consistently.
- Transparency. Recruitment process must be transparent.
- Responsiveness. The ZNA will continuously develop the recruitment and selection practices to allow new ideas and approaches to be incorporated in tandem with modern trends.
- Confidentiality. All information received from the applicants and other details relating to the recruitment process shall be confidential.
Recruitment Criteria
The following criteria guides the recruitment and selection in the Zimbabwe National Army:
a). Minimum Qualifications. The minimum qualifications for one to be eligible for recruitment into the Zimbabwe National Army shall be as follows:
(1) Officer Cadets. Potential Officer Cadets should have at least 6 Points at ‘A’ Level and a minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics and any Science subject.
(2) General Duty Soldiers. Candidates for General Duty training should have a minimum of 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English Language, Mathematics and any Science subject.
(3) Specialist Officers. Specialist officers include health services practitioners, lawyers and accountants.
b). Age for Potential Candidates. The age limit for potential candidates shall be as follows:
(1) Officer Cadets. Officer Cadets shall be between 18-22 years for ‘A’ Level candidates and a maximum of 26 years for Degree and Diploma holders.
(2) Specialist Officers. The age for Specialist candidates shall be 18 to 30 years.
(3) General Duty Soldiers. The age for General Duty candidates shall be 18-22 years.
c). Minimum Height. The minimum height shall be 1,65m for males and 1,55m for females for all the categories.
d). Standard Weight. The weight required for candidates shall be within the ranges of 53-57 kg for female and 55-59 kg for male candidates.
e). Body Mass Index. The recommended BMI shall be between 18-25.
f). Physical Fitness Test. Potential candidates will be required to complete a 10 km road run in 50min for males and 60min for females.
g). Police Clearance. Candidates should have Police clearance including authentication of academic qualifications.
h). Medical Fitness. Candidates shall be subject to thorough medical examinations in accordance with the Zimbabwe National Army Manual of Medical Administration of 2011.
i). Marital Status. Potential Officer Cadets and General Duty candidates must be single by the time of the selection process.
