1 Infantry Battalion Emerges Victorious in Zambia Army’s Inter-Unit Shooting Competition.

The 2025 Zambia Army Inter-Unit Skill-at-Arms (SAA) Shooting Competition has concluded in Kabwe, Central Province, with 1 Infantry Battalion emerging as the overall winner.
Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff, Major General Luswepo Sinyinza graced the official closing ceremony, congratulating the winners, and stating that the competition was part of the Army’s training activities outlined for 2025.
Maj Gen Sinyinza urged participants to apply the lessons learned and skills acquired during the competition in their duties.
“I congratulate the winning teams and individuals on your achievement. Your hard work and commitment have paid off, and you serve as role models to your colleagues,” he said.
The Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff also commended the government for its unwavering support towards the Army’s training activities, which he added are enhancing military cohesion and promoting regional cooperation.
And speaking earlier, 2 Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Rabson Kunda Chama expressed his gratitude to the participants from the allied countries, sister services and the Zambia Army.
The competition, hosted by 3 Infantry Battalion, featured Officers and Soldiers from various Zambia Army Units, Zambia Air Force (ZAF), Zambia National Service (ZNS) and allied countries.
The top three positions in the major Unit category were claimed by 1 Infantry Battalion (2,468 points), Military Training Establishment of Zambia (MILTEZ) (2,419 points) and 1 Commando Unit (2,401 points).
In the minor Unit category, 2 Infantry Brigade Headquarters secured the first position with 1,517 points, followed by Luapula Formation Headquarters (1,260 points) and 8 Independent Brigade Headquarters (1,050 points).
Teams from Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania also participated with Zimbabwe Defence Force emerging victorious after outshining Malawi and Tanzania in all categories.
Those that scooped awards in individual categories included Warrant Officer Class Two (WOII) Changala James from 3 Infantry Battalion Headquarters (best shot in pistol category), Warrant Officer Class One (WOI) Rodger Saisha from 1 Commando Unit (overall best firer in major Unit category) and WOI Lazarous Mumba from 8 Independent Infantry Brigade Headquarters (best firer in minor Unit category).
